i think might dazai die in the ending of bsd. here’s why.
i always see a tweet on my timeline about how people want to see an unhinged dazai, a man who gives into his trauma and finally lets loose. but how can a person who has masqueraded his whole life as an emotionless alien do such a thing?
this is a great question as i can’t possibly see dazai maintaining his calm and collected presence for the whole run of the series, the audience will eventually start to learn about his backstory and how he came to be. it’s inevitable that dazai will one day crack
something to trigger dazai to become feral must be one that is so traumatic and terrible that dazai gives up. an event even worse than oda’s death that leaves dazai cornered and unable to manipulate others for his gain. keep in mind we’re talking about the same dazai who-
went thru the trouble of getting stabbed and almost getting chuuya killed by corruption just to achieve his end result. if he felt some sort of fear it was not evident through his mannerisms. this was because he knew everything would come together. he always knew it would.
this is dazai’s weak point. he is not like kunikida who loved children and would willingly risk his life for them, a point fyoder took advantage of to break his spirit. dazai is very willing to use others for his gain, but his weakness is that he is assured that they will be okay
dazai has risked the lives of his coworkers all the time, putting people like atsushi and akutagawa in dangerous fights they weren’t mentally prepared for. the trauma the others go through bc of dazai is insane but they have a sense of trust in him as he always fixes things.
so for an event to happen that will break dazai is if someone were to find out about this weakness.
dazai did something wrong. it didn’t work. dazai let someone die. his plans have failed.
dazai who calculated wrong for the first time in his life, has caused the death of someone who should’ve lived. this death must be one so unexpected and impactful that nobody ever saw it coming.
this is how we get a dazai who has lost it. it did not go according to plan because dazai was so confident in his abilities that he always expects his plans to go through. this triggering event will lead to the emotionally raw, angered, and murderous dazai everyone wants to see
this is how we get a blood thirsty monster. a monster who is rid of any morals and who won’t stop till the enemy who caused his pain is killed. but once the enemy is gone, how is he supposed to live with himself?
odasaku’s wish has been destroyed and dazai is left as an empty shell as a man. in the end, his death would be inevitable.
