thread of normalized antisemitism that’s really common on this app, from a jew /srs
calling jews rats. this is a really common microaggression, and it’s antisemitic because it’s rooted in decades of history (in the holocaust jews we’re frequently compared to rats and vermin as a way to say we should be exterminated). it doesn’t matter if you’re calling them a +
rat for reasons unrelated to their judaism, it’s offensive. stop doing it
calling jews greedy and/or money/power hungry. the jews controlling money and being greedy stereotype is a tale as old as time and has been used to uphold antisemitism for ages. again, i don’t care if you’re doing it for reasons unrelated to their judaism, stop doing it
the word jew. some jewish people are really uncomfortable with the word “jew” being used from non jews because it’s been used derogatorily in the past. some jewish people are fine with the term, +
others are really bothered by it so please just listen to to jews you interact with and when in doubt use “jewish people” instead
holocaust comparisons. historical comparisons in general are almost always insensitive, inaccurate, and unnecessary. it belittles the significance of the holocaust and diminishes the experiences of many, and is almost never effective. stop doing it
making holocaust jokes. i feel like this should be self explanatory, but apparently it still needs to be said. these jokes are never funny. i’ve never laughed at a hitler joke. +
generational trauma is real and something a lot of jews still deal with, so making these jokes is insensitive and at times triggering.
i don’t care if you’re a part of a group that may have been affected by the holocaust, if you’re not jewish or romani you have no place making those jokes. yes, the holocaust harmed many different groups, but the extinction of jewish and romani people was its main goal, and it +
wiped out entire communities and generations for us. polish people were affected sure, but not in the same way jewish and romani people were so please stop equating them
talking over jews about antisemitism. in the past i’ve called out these and many more instances of antisemitism and been told to get over myself or that it’s not actually antisemitic. i am jewish, you are not it’s really not that hard to listen to jews on these issues.
and “focus on the REAL antisemitism.” don’t tell jews what antisemitism to focus on. twitter is supposed to be a safe place and that means we shouldn’t have to see antisemitism on the tl regularly, & also just telling jews what to focus on when it comes to antisemitism is gross
i should’ve added this a while ago but asking for every jews input on the israeli palestine conflict can be antisemitic too. we don’t owe you that, if we want to discuss it believe me we will have no problem bringing it up, but being jewish doesn’t mean we +
owe you our opinion on it. our silence isn’t a sign of supporting israeli policies, not all jews are zionists that’s another false assumption, it’s simply a sign that we don’t know enough or *dont want to talk about it*
