Remittances are incredibly expensive. The pandemic has made it even more expensive to send money to Africa. @WesternUnion charging $81 to send $1,000 to Zimbabwe is madness. Costs $2.99 to send the same amount to the UK, $7 to send to India & $25 to Rwanda. Why the differences?
I have been asking Western Union to explain their fee structures for years with no luck. If anyone understands the reasons behind their ridiculous fees let me know. @WorldRemitHelp is not any better. $22 to send $1,000 to Zim? Come on.
Here are charges from @WorldRemit & @MoneyGram is a little cheaper but it’s still over 10% if one uses the debit/credit card option. Paying via bank account would process in a about 7 days which is cray.
