With graduation approaching, I’ve had a lot of q’s around getting an “industry” job after doing a MS/PhD. Since I went through this a few years ago, hopefully some advice can be helpful. A thread. I m honored when someone reaches out so if you have ?’s, send em my way! a🧵:
I started applying for various data science jobs the last year of my PhD and put out a TON of applications with no replies. First lesson: The goal of resume/cover letters is to get to a phone interview.
Resume screens are often done by the HR department and listing your papers/abstracts will not often help them understand why/how you would fit the role. The first page of your resume should show a non-technical person why you can fill the role to which you are applying.
I’m bad at Twitter apparently... the second tweet has the thread 🙈
