#NOW So much of CNY break - Trial of 8 pro-democracy leaders including Martin Lee, Margaret Ng and #JimmyLai for organising and joining an unlawful assembly on 18 Aug, 2019 is about to start in District Court using a courtroom in West Kowloon Magistrates Court.
It’s the first time for Martin Lee, 83, founder of @HKDemocrats and Margaret Ng, 73, former legislator representing the legal sector - both senior and widely respected barristers - to stand trial.
Previously DOJ wanted to hire David Perry SC from UK to be the prosecutor of this case but Perry pulled out under criticism of him helping the embattled public prosecution department in HK. Benjamin Yu, who helped HK gov win the mask ban case, stands as Perry’s replacement today.
#JUSTIN Au Nok-hin, former deputy convener of @chrf_hk pleaded guilty to both charges of organising and joining an unlawful assembly on 18 Aug 2019.
Leung Yiu-chung pleaded guilty to the charge of joining an unlawful assembly.
The rest pleaded not guilty to both charges.
#LATEST Au Nok-hin former deputy convenor of @chrf_hk is convicted of organising and joining an unlawful assembly on 18 Aug 2019 after he pleaded guilty.
#LATEST Leung Yiu-Chung is convicted of joining an unlawful assembly on 18 August 2019 on his own plea. The other charge of organising an unlawful seemingly is left on court file and will not be dealt with until the court approves.
22 March is earmarked for mitigation and sentencing for Au Nok-hin and Leung Yiu-chung.

The court reserved 10 days for trial of the other 7 which is supposed to conclude on 1 March if things go smooth.
IF JUDGE WOODCOCK ALLOWS, @cliffordstott will be testifying as an expert witness for the defense team in the trial, regarding crowd psychology, crowd control and management in mass assembly.

Court was adjourned this noon till tmr morning to wait for Stott's report.
