I think.... if you're crying about, especially *at*, work on the regular.... it's like a traumatic situation. If you're on eggshells around your boss 9 hours a day, that's an abusive relationship. We wonder why mental health is so bad.
I think I've had *one job* where the boss was kind and thoughtful. I quit an office job (it was a temp role anyway) after *one day*. I cried on the bus on the way home, it was that bad. I quit a bar job after one week because the customers were abusive and the manager didn't care
I was at one job for a year where the manager weaponised the suggestion box against the staff. We were scolded by two different bosses because they were giving conflicting instructions and wouldn't just talk it over amongst themselves.
I was just thinking about how shitty toxic workplaces can be, and how we don't care about it. We don't recognise how a bad boss can abuse the power they have over you... there are some similarities to an abusive parent. They hold your livelihood in their hand.
They even hold your *future* in their hand! They can withhold a reference if you don't bow and scrape and leave in a way they consider appropriate.
And then when you've escaped your abusive workplace, you have to go back to a similar environment and hope it's better. The *dread* that after a few weeks the shine will wear off and you'll see it's just as toxic.
