We've heard this more and more lately, so here are EIGHT REASONS YOUR VOICE MATTERS IN STATE POLITICS:

1⃣State laws directly affect our daily lives. From firearm regulations to DUI, from tax code to community property, AZ lawmakers decide AZ priorities and are responsible for serving us.

2/
2⃣AZ can lead if the feds don’t. Even when things stall in DC, states control school funding, public health, transportation, water policy, etc. Want teachers paid well? Like your roads pothole-free? Hoping your faucets don’t run dry? Those are state-level issues.

3/
3⃣State lawmakers are more accessible. Sinema and Kelly represent all of AZ, 7 million people, but your state senator represents only 200,000 — meaning a phone call or zoom meeting with that person is actually within reach.

4/
4⃣Local politics shape national change. Many now-landmark federal policies, like women’s suffrage, minimum wage, environmental protection and marriage equality, all started at the local level. We can help create innovative policies that directly affect us.

5/
5⃣It’s easier to stop bad policies locally. The last time dark-money special interests tried to expand vouchers in AZ, citizens rose up, turned that bad bill into Prop 305, and voted it down by 2 to 1 margins. And we can do it again!

6/
6⃣States grow policies. Several states have recently created commissions modeled after AZ's redistricting system. We can incubate good ideas here and watch them spread.

7/
7⃣AZ can influence national policy by passing laws here at home. This session we're seeing a bill on ranked-choice voting. Imagine the change we could help create if it works well and something similar gets passed nationally.

8/
8⃣The AZ Constitution protects us with the rights to recall, initiative and referendum. Each of these has actually been used within the past 10 years. Who knows what the next 10 years have in store?
