So I was curious about who oil companies choose to follow on here, and y’know, it’s weird.

You might expect them to be following a lot of global corporate accounts and other fossil fuel companies etc and you’d be right but there are distinct flavours to them.

A short thread:
First we have @bp_plc
Lots of oil and gas business types but also, rather oddly, lots of British Embassies in various parts of the world.
They also follow a couple of accounts that make no sense at all. The sort that have double digit follows and post homophobic abuse. Why?
Then our much loathed friends @Shell who make room for a handful of climate activists and organisations. I don’t imagine they retweet those much.
They also include an ex problem-gambler, a man whose claim to fame is seeing Barry Manilow in a vest and some overt racists.
The ocean poisoning @Chevron are frankly disappointing and stick to some big name climate accounts, energy firms and lots of journalists. Come ON you guys, show us your weird Twitter shit.
Surely the ever dependable climate criminals @exxonmobil won’t let us down?
It seems they want to show us their warm and fuzzy side. It’s all about health and tropical disease prevention - which is fun, given what their products do to increase these risks.
Lots of sports and...
...because @exxonmobil are just hideous, they also find time to follow a couple of their own bots.

I wonder who all the big plastic polluters follow? 🤔🤔🤔 *waves at @CocaCola
You can follow @mrEmTee.
Tip: mention @twtextapp on a Twitter thread with the keyword “unroll” to get a link to it.
