After back-to-back single party mandates, a record 67%+ turnout in ‘19 and a pro-incumbency vote, @TIME uses a ‘native’ hireling to lend legitimacy to this outlandish story meant for Western consumption.

For Indians, democracy is a lived reality and on aggregate, is like no other in terms of depth and scale. That international media, like their counterparts in India’s English press who are weighed down by a panel of caste-calculating psephologists, cannot explain voter behavior.
This inability to fairly assess the needs and desires of the ‘subaltern’ who neither consume nor care for the Western press, leads to faulty assumptions and conclusions far removed from the truth. The gap with reality is so vast that the propaganda will eventually subvert itself.
One needs to lack intellect and journalistic ethics to stray this far. Little does @Planet_Deb know it is a self-defeating exercise. India has its own voice. A brown face provides valuable cover to institutional racism only so long as Indians care for Western validation.
