With Senate Elections around the Corner, here’s a little explanation on how Senate Election is conducted in Pakistan through a Proportional Representational System introduced in the 19th century by British Mathematician Thomas Wright Hill.

Voting in Senate can be complicated and only involves Elected Representatives with Polls held on the basis of a Single Transferable Vote System (STV). To contest, a candidate of 30 years of age or above, must have one Proposer, one Seconder, who endorse and support the candidacy.
On the day of the vote, members of the National & Provincial assembly are given slips of paper to name their candidates on the basis of priority, therefore, 1,2,3.
Once a Candidate gets the required priority votes, their remaining Priority 1 votes will be transferred to the candidate on 2nd priority. A process that continues until the required number of Senators are elected.
52 senators are set to retire,50% of the 104 Total ,However, this time there will be no polling for the four seats of Fata after its merger with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
Therefore, Polling to elect 48 senators, 12 each from KP & Balochistan, 11 each from Punjab and Sindh and 2 from Islamabad . Polling to elect 7 members on General Seats,2 Women & 2 Technocrats in 4 provinces. 1 minority seat in KP, Balochistan too
The Maths to determine the exact quota of the vote each candidate should receive is challenging .Punjab For Example,371 electors and each vote is assigned the value of 100.

371x 100 = 37,100

Divide this by the number of vacant (General) seats, 7 (add 1)
=4635
Now remove the last two digits and we are left with 46. Add another (1) to it and we will have 47. Which means that each candidate in Punjab must get 47 votes.

Redact as You Please According.
Using the same formula, Required Number of Votes for each Candidate 👇👇

National Assembly 172
Punjab Assembly 47
KP Assembly 19
Sindh Assembly 22
Baluchistan Assembly 9

This is a careful calculation taken out of a VERY complicated STV Quota Proportional Representation System Therefore before challenging the numbers, Please go Through attached document showing ECP Formula 😂😂

All Candidates listed on the Ballot Paper but Candidate for General & Special Seats are usually listed under Separate Categorise.
“General Seats”
“Special Seats”
Every Voter has to record Preferences on one Ballot Paper in “General Seats” Category.
Every Voter has to Record Preferences for Seats for Women/Technocrats & Non-Muslims Separately.

Candidates securing the highest votes over & above the quota for General Seats,Candidates for Reserved seats for Women/Technocrats & Non Muslims are Declared “Elected”.......
....Regardless of the Fact that there May be some Candidates on General Seats whose Scores are higher than those declared Elected....& Vice Versa.
