When you peg your brand and business to an entire planet that is not designed in any way shape or form to contain human life you have to defend your story of course. Doesn’t mean that story is anything but completely wrong.

The arrogance of taking a statement from Sagan about the preciousness of our planet and saying he is wrong because we have Mars, just no. Just because there is a rocky sphere within a years rocket ride doesn't mean we belong there or can sustain life there.

He's like one of those salesmen who pawns off face cream but they don't actually use it because they know it burns your skin off. I would love for these folks to just go to Mars. Dig your tunnels, load up on the sad lamps, grow your poop food. Enjoy the cancer. Best of luck.

Ok one more thing. I spent five years obsessed with studying the radiation effects of human spaceflight. I talked to NASA doctors, radiation specialists, you name it. There are *many* good reasons why humans haven't been to Mars yet..

One of the biggest next to money and engineering infrastructure is health of the crew. NASA (understandably) does not know how to keep their astronauts alive on Mars. That's how deadly it is to travel there and stay for a few weeks. But you want to set up shop?

They are working on this problem of course but it's extremely difficult to do. We landed people on the moon with tech less sophisticated than your iphone. Damn straight we can sent people to Mars but NASA doesn't want a dead crew.
