Smile/KP6 theory: Why Smile was an era for the quarantine and KP6 could be a bigger era
Katy talked about how NRO was just a single she put out and it didn't mean she was releasing an album. I believe NRO, ST and HIH were released as standalone singles and were not planned to be the start of an album era.
Katy ended up throwing songs together to make Smile, but said she only released it in 2020 because she planned to write another album after giving birth. I believe she put out Smile last year without any big plans for its success.
Katy also talked about how her pregnancy and the pandemic affected her career starting with Daisies, where she could not film the high budget video she wanted. Clearly, any big plans she made before the pandemic were no longer possible.
The rest of the Smile era went the same way, where nothing was planned beforehand and it was mostly based around what Katy felt inspired to do in the moment.
Smile era was a project Katy made as a way of reflecting on the past few years, and was not made to be about success. The only point of the album was to share the lessons she learned by recovering from depression and finding happiness again.
Why KP6 will be different: With a new CEO of Capitol Records, Katy has already given us an incredible performance that was celebrated around the world. Electric, American Idol, etc will also keep her on locals minds this year.
And according to a trusted insider, Katy isn't putting this hype to waste. She is expected to release a few more droplets before starting another era, possibly more personal and about her experiences as a mother.
The fact she pushed the release date to 2022 could mean she wants to make the album as good as possible or because she wants to release it after the pandemic so she can promote it. If this insider is right, Katy might have big plans for KP6.
