Why You Should Watch "A Place Further than the Universe"- A Thread (Spoiler Free)

Wreckless Idealism and Stepping Away from Comfort Zones
I'll just start with a brief synopsis. A Place Further than the Universe is a Slice of Life, Adventure series about a bunch of highschool girls trying to go on a trip to Antartica.

It's a completed 13 episode anime original series created by Studio Madhouse in 2018.
The synposis sounds bizzare and weird right? The characters around the main cast feel the same way.

It's a story about making sure you try your best even if the whole world says otherwise. It's an anime self aware of it's crazy premise and is grounded and realistic about it.
This anime is genuinely unique

I love travelling anime/stories. There are quite a few great ones (One Piece, Kino's Journey) but I've always wanted a travelling anime set and grounded in reality. And Sora Yori is definitely it. An amazing adventure set in reality.
Usage of "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things"

Having the perspective of the series be from the lens of idealistic, innocent highschoolers was genius. It keeps the series in staying adventurous and fun while the serious, frightening aspects of the journey is handled in the background.
Art Direction, Lighting, Camera and Cinematography

It's nothing short of gorgeous. Its animated reality in the same way KyoAni anime are. All the locations in the anime feel like properly researched real life locations & it makes the anime hyper realistic. Prime madhouse stuff.
Since we're highlighting it's art direction, I'll stan the Director of Photography, Kawashita Yuuki. He's someone to look out for. He was the director of photography for Vinland Saga. They're hyper realistic and makes the anime more immersive, grounded and breathtaking.
Motivational and Inspiring themes

It's a story about reluctances, stepping away from our comfort zones. It's about taking the first step forward and making the most of your youth and life. It's an amazing story about growing up and being independent.
Walking the fine line between Drama and Iyashikei

It's a hard balance to have when the series is trying to be both of them but the series pulls it off brilliantly. It's wholesome, dramatic when it needs to be. The characters, their VA does an amazing job in this aspect as well.
I love the Cast

They are so much fun. They have so much personality and characterization to them. The dynamics between all of them are great. The voice actresses are brilliant. The supporting characters are really strong too.
It's an anime original

Anime originals are almost always passion projects. They don't have the clout of a source materials and it's difficult for passion projects to get their spotlight. This series is definitely one. And it's a completed show in just 13 episodes. Give it a try.
The title of the anime is actually a quote from a Japanese Astronaut who went visiting in the japanese station in Antartica and talked about how much more difficult and how it took more time to get there than to go outerspace. I was going somewhere with this. Oh yeah, what I-
-wanted to say with this is, there are a lot of adventerous, scary places you could travel to on our planet. Being born too early to explore the universe or being too late to travel the seas are all just excuses when there are so many places to go on a trip too. You just have to-
take the first step to reach there. And it's a part of this show's message as well. And I think that's super cool.
A Place Further than the Universe is a wonderful modern classic anime about travelling, about goals and being independent. It's an anime with outstanding production values and directing. It inspired me to do certain things I used to be reluctant about. I hope you guys try it out.
