Touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket, Wasim Jaffer made headlines after smashing 400 not out in an innings in school cricket when he was just 15 years old.
He made a swashbuckling 314 only in his second Test for Mumbai. He batted for 675 minutes while playing the mammoth innings and added 459 runs for the first wicket.
He made his way into the Indian Test team against South Africa in the year 2000. Jaffer had a terrible start to his career and managed to make 46 runs in 4 innings.
Due to his initial hiccups, he would not start another international match for some time, eventually returning in May 2002 for a tour of the West Indies. Jaffer had a respectable series, making 51 in Bridgetown and 86 at Antigua.
He had done enough to be included in the Indian squad for their tour of England the following summer but, despite a half century at Lord's, he struggled in his other innings and was dropped after two Tests.
Jaffer was recalled to the Test squad for the tour of PAK 2005–06 due to excellent domestic form, but did not play in the Tests. It was in the next series in India that Jaffer scored his maiden Test century: exactly 100 against ENG at Nagpur, in his first Test since his recall.
He made his first Test double-century atbAntiguaa gainst WI in June 2006. His 212 was made in over 500 minutes during the 2nd inn. & was the equal second highest by an Indian batsman in WI.
He also scored 202 in the 2nd Test of the 2007 series against PAK at Eden Gardens.

Wasim played 31 Tests for India and scored 1,944 runs at an average of 34 scoring 5 hundreds. He wasn't that lucky to play in the Indian jersey more but his numbers in domestic cricket are absolutely astonishing !
260 first class games scoring 19,410 runs at an average of 50.67. The master batsman has 57 first class centuries to his name.
In fact, his tally of 12038 runs is the most for any batsman in the Ranji Trophy. Also, he holds the record of scoring most 100's (40) in Ranji history.
