I spent 10 years in post secondary education in 2 countries. I did my course work in political science and law in what became a second language by the time I wrote my masters thesis and passed state exam in a country where I first had to face down fascism. It wasn’t long after
I came here that I saw the beginnings of radicalization in the Republican party. When I lived in Canada the GOP already looked very right wing. But if changed dramatically during the 7 years I was in Europe. And after seeing for myself that the Republican Party donated
services by a US p.r firm to the Austrian fascist party, known as The Freedom Party of Austria, my concerns multiplied. That was in 2002.
I was put off and dismissed as ignorant about American politics by people with sympathies to both parties.

i continued on a largely isolated
journey and saw little warnings about growing acceptance of fascism within the right wing. some dismissing it as a just a word for someone whose idea you don’t like.
There were more signs over the years since 2002. And I still believedthat most of America would reject fascism.
Even as the GOP embraced the Koch funded Tea Party. And the fascist tendency were more pronounced as we saw the first clown car enter congress - after McConnell’s openly racist and hostile behavior toward Barack Obama.
I’ve been in this fight for 20 years. I’m tired & feeling
my age. I’m sick of fighting and occasionally being accused of not understanding what this fight is about.
I know it from my family history, from my academic background and from living this nightmare since the 1990’s.
i won’t go into the skirmishes with fascists that began off
and on 40 years ago.
But this I will say. I’m done. I’ll never be a fascist and never surrender to what I know is evil. I don’t need anyone to tell me what I fought all my life is about.
