The irony of this question/concern is that if you're obligating yourself to building with the most powerful or best cards available, you're playing Commander like it's a 75-card constructed format and are missing the point of it to begin with. It's also an information availability problem that can't be helped. There's always going to be cards that are seen as more effective than others. When players load up EDHREC, they're going to see Top Commanders for their colors, etc. The information is out there and inevitable.
Magic is an investment. Players want their decks to be effective. No matter how casual you are, it feels bad to spend money on a deck or cards that end up worse than your friends you play with. No matter what R&D does, people will seek out the best bang for their buck.
