We do at times overcomplicate things.

The thinking underpinning our approaches can be complex, knowledge rich, deep & sophisticated. However, simplicity in terms of execution & delivery is an art. It take practice, honing & refining. https://twitter.com/Strickomaster/status/1360616887428800516
Having led both an Outstanding & an RI school the approach is similar (yes there are differences too). The more complex you make something the more people you lose on the way. The simpler the approach the more readily & easily understood it is.
The true art though is taking deep complex thinking & making it easily understood by all stakeholders. Something I strive to do all the time.
An incredibly wise, now retired CEO, was clear with me that if you complicate things too much in the name of being overly clever you are likely to f... it up. This is advice that I have never taken lightly.
It’s easy to dismiss simplicity as lacking research, lacking thinking, something you do to turn around a school. It’s not. Simplicity in itself is actually highly challenging & requires huge thought. It is something you shouldn’t underestimate in its power to bring people on.
Simplicity is also hugely powerful in bringing about swift transformation &, where applicable, incremental marginal gains.
Simplicity often (perhaps not always) comes with experience, understanding, a chance to refine & having worn multiple hats or having worn one set hat for a good period of time.
However to dismiss it is somewhat naive and I hear the words of my former retired CEO echo in my ears.
In short....

Keeping it simple isn’t necessarily stupid
