There's a rumor circulating about WB/AT&T fully moving DC Comics publishing operations to a licensing model. Effectively the death of DC as we know it. I find this dubious for a few reasons. (small thread)
Yes, that corporation has only held on to DC as its last print publishing entity for film/TV/screen development. Obviously they don't "need" a comics publisher. But they also don't want to piss of the hardcore fans, AND more importantly, they want control of the properties.
Hell, WB and DC just announced a "new character to TV show greenlight" deal LAST MONTH. So long as that pipeline remains profitable, they can keep DC running on a skeleton crew unless they're REALLY desperate to cut all costs (entirely possible!).
AT&T execs have proven they can't be trusted for shit when it comes to DC, but I think a newly installed division boss fond of writing press releases about his old Shazam comics means we won't be seeing a shuttering for a few years yet, if it's coming.
Anyway, this was all just preamble to me linking to this good thread on why DC as a licensing entity isn't the end of the world for comics. (Though personally if they did it, I'd stop watching all those movies and shit. Screw 'em) https://twitter.com/LandryQWalker/status/1361380647831408640
