One thing I’ve always wanted to bring up is that I feel as though Akutami has taken the foundation of the yūrei and applied it to curses in JJK with some alterations to make it both more easy to understand and a bit more mainstream.
Yūrei are essentially spirits that have any particular amount of rage, love, hatred, sorrow, or other emotions and that emotion allows them to bridge the cap between the spirit and human world, giving them the ability to interact with us.
This can occur with an violent act, like killing someone. Since Geto was a curse manipulator, Toji doesn’t kill him because death could elevate the power of the curses Geto has.
Like I said, the emotion just has to be there. It doesn’t even have to be in excessive amounts, as even the smallest thoughts can lead to a yūrei being born, similar to the way Rika became a curse through Yuta’s mental state at the time of her death.
Yūrei usually exist until they patch emotional conflicts they had that tied them to our world, similar to how Rika was released due to Yuta understanding what caused him to curse her.
I don’t know if this is the exact thing Akutami was going for but I found this to be really interesting. Now that we’re in the second age of curses, I can’t wait to see more similarities to appear within JJK.
