1. Timeline
Karl found the Inbetween at the end of The Masquerade episode. If he travels to the Inbetween between travels, this must have been his first travel. We should have seen alternate/past Karls walking around, as in the Wild West episode. I believe that each of + 1/??

these Karls are from a past story that Karl remembers.
But this gives us a bit of a timeline to work with-but The Masquerade was the first travel, Wild Wild West was a later one. Karl as a character was not in The Lost City of Mizu or The Village That Went Mad. + 2/??

Both stories were in Karl’s library, before he was introduced to the Inbetween in The Masquerade. Either he took note of those stories before going to the Inbetween, or what I find more likely, someone else wrote those stories. + 3/??
2. Ranboo
There’s reason to believe Ranboo is also a time traveler. The Village and City of Mizu May be 2 of the many stories Ranboo has written, just as Karl does now. In the City of Mizu, Ranboo’s information included “...his ancestors were the book keepers of the + 4/??

events that happened on the Dream SMP”.
Memory loss seems to be connected to death- Karl seems used to time traveling by dying in a timeline (as shown in the end of Wild West). If Ranboo also does that, he would have died plenty of times in the past while time traveling. + 5/??

Ghostbur also became an amnesiac after his canon death, though Glatt hasn’t had much canon action to show whether or not he suffers the same effects as Ghostbur.

death and time travel travel must have been inherited. (Irl) Ranboo has commented about how he has written long documents on his character, and mentioned his character’s “complex past”. There isn’t any hint to what that past could be other than the connections that can be + 7/??

“wanted” poster about Sir Billiam, it suggests people found out about the murders at the mansion and Ranboo, at the time Sir Billiam’s Butler, was forced to run away. Since he didn’t time travel he started working in the town seen in Wild West, as a bartender. + 9/??
Now it’s possible Butler and John were the same but they both look nothing like Ranboo, right? Keep in mind that an interdimensional being, the species that can time travel , can choose their appearance- Karl’s original appearance looks much different from his human + 10/??

The species can travel through dimensions and space and time, right?
In Minecraft there’s 3 accessible dimensions, end, overworld, and nether. There’s 1 mob that spawns in all three, and therefore can be considered an “interdimensional being”, which can travel through + 12/??

space (teleportation) and dimensions. So Ranboo is already, by default, at least half interdimensional being. Then what happened to the egg? John/Ranboo must have turned against the egg. This is why Ranboo was labeled a traitor in the City of Mizu. + 13/??
3. The story?
Here’s what I think happened.
Ranboo had been serving the egg. When Sir Billiam was exposed he ran away and started working at the saloon. When seeing Karl was alive with a slightly different outfit, John must have realized Karl was a time traveler too, + 14/??

After Karl had shown him kindness at the masquerade, defended him even after he had killed Karl once, and probably other events not yet shown, Ranboo decided to be his friend. After dying in the duel, Ranboo was sent to the + 15/??

Inbetween. He time travels for a while, probably running into Karl here and there. As I suggested Karl does, he likely saw projections of himself, memories of past journeys building up and fading away. As he starts to lose those memories, he notices less and less + 16/??
projections, so he starts writing books to remind himself (and later Karl) about the Inbetween- That’s where his habit of writing down important things to remember must have come from.

Ranboo must have arrived at the current SMP time and somehow found a way to stop time traveling, in order to stop the progression of his already dangerous amnesia. He forgot the final details of his time traveling experience and is where he is now, memories only + 18/??
surfacing in scenes where he says things “keep happening”, that he “must stop it”. There’s a quote that got some attention: “If history is gonna repeat itself, let’s alter history.”
