By the way if any northerners are feeling smartassed about texas falling apart in the face of the worst blizzard in recorded history keep in mind that a lot of the houses in the southern part of the state do not have heating and shut the fuck up
For a huge part of this state your only option for the usual two or three days of cold weather are space heaters. Losing power in 15 degree weather is life threatening for a lot of people, even those with houses
After 14 hours we are fortunate enough to have electricity back, and it's nearly 50 degrees in our house again. Many others are not as fortunate.
Power and heat are gone again. It's nineteen degrees out
Legitimately not sure what to do. Our bedroom is reasonably warm and we have lots of blankets. The toddler has never slept in our bed before but his room is going to get much colder (and he kicks his blankets off in his sleep). Dogs and baby are no problem.
Already back under 60 downstairs and will fall quickly. no guidance on when the power will come back, could be days apparently. Really don't want to load the truck in pitch black on ice.
Our house was built in 1939 and is very good at staying cool in the summer, sheds heat very quickly. Lol.
Honestly the worst part is having no idea what is going on with the power situation. No guidance from @ERCOT_ISO or @CNPalerts aside from extremely vague stuff talking in days. Know we aren't in a controlled rolling blackout situation but it's hard to judge anything
Anyway, making our final preparations and then gonna go move the toddler and try to call it a night. If you pray, pray for the unhoused and the people not as fortunate as we are. Most of the state will be below freezing and many people are likely to die. This was preventable
This is the product of decades of neglect as well as anti-regulation Republican officials who created our insane power grid that has failed us so desperately. They did this to evade the EPA, to deny climate change, to enrich their donors. Pray for those they kill tonight
But always, always remember who killed them for money. Never forget who killed these people for some cheap cash from the blood of our planet.
Haven't been posting because frankly I have too much to do but we still do not have power or heat at our home. Temperature has at last risen above freezing outside but we still have no eta on power. More people we know have been turned off today. No idea why.
Remember who caused this suffering. Seven dead in Houston last night that we know of - there will be more once we thaw and take stock. Remember who did this, for the sake of profits.

It will freeze again as far south as Houston tonight, and it will rain and coat all the lines in ice.
It's going to be a lot worse than this. https://twitter.com/MayraABC13/status/1361794128070123525?s=19
So any lib who looks at the color on a 2020 election map and says fuck em, eat my entire ass, you monster
@ERCOT_ISO was warned by the federal government that they needed to winterize their equipment in 2011 and they did nothing
Living the last 48 hours as the "haha this sucks man" guy
I didn't intend this thread to be like this, I normally have a three tweet maximum because I think Twitter threads are dumb, but damn. This sucks. I wish I was even slightly equal to the task of writing how I've felt the last few days. I've done hurricanes plenty, we all have but
But this is just some of the most exhausting shit of my life. Incredibly cold, wrapping the kids in as many layers as we can and worrying about their poor feet. Feeling lucky to have camping gear, half a tank of gas in the truck. The toddler clearly terrified by the ways it all
Has changed from what he was comfortable with so quickly. Abandoning our home and then having to abandon another place, and another. Packing and unpacking and repacking the truck in the cold. Seeing the dog with the bad hip unable to stand after riding in the kennel in the back
Because he's so cold and it's a little cramped in his kennel. Knowing, above it all, that [we are the lucky ones], my whole huge stupid family lives in this city, someone will have warmth and shelter and probably no covid. Covid on top of everything as a city wracked with it
Gets forced to welcome in and shelter whoever possible wherever possible. It's going to freeze again and ice the roads tonight. More people who have had power are losing it. Hardly anyone seems to be getting it back. Our governor lies to hannity about turbines to own the libs
The kids are asleep now, at last. I had to hold the toddler for more than an hour before he would sleep. That wasn't even true when he was a baby. I'm tired and my back hurts and all I can do is hope that where we are now is shelter for at least the night.
Hurricanes are a piece of cake compared to this because we understand the rules. There's no rules for this, none that I can understand. Cell phone service is getting spottier and spottier. I dread to think what we will do if or when it goes completely.
When he was fussing before sleep the toddler told me he wanted to go home and I wanted to cry. Me too, man. But home isn't home right now. Maybe it will be again sometime soon. Its supposed to be in the 50s and sunny by Saturday
