This paper discusses the challenges and opportunities for #personalized #cardiac #simulations, from #diagnosis to #device design, #treatment planning, and #prognosis. 2/n
We start by mapping out the history of anatomical, physical, and constitutive human heart models throughout the past three decades. 3/n
Next, we illustrate some recent initiatives in modeling the complex #multiscale #electrophysiological behavior of the human heart in differing healthy, diseased, and pharmacological conditions. 4/n
In a similar fashion, we showcase the use of these models to simulate the #biomechanical behavior of the human heart, and how multiscale #growth modeling allows us to simulate the gradual progression towards #chronic #heartfailure. 5/n
By imposing fluid-structure interactions, a full #multiphysics understanding of the functioning heart can be achieved and intricate blood flow patterns in the heart can be studied in more detail. #FSI #fluidstructureinteraction #fluidmechanics. 6/n
Realistic #cardiac #digitaltwins provide important #virtual #benchtest environments for #medical #device #innovation. We highlight clinically relevant applications for #pacemaker lead failure, #VADs, #mitral edge-to-edge repair, and the design of novel #annuloplasty #rings. 7/n
Further incorporating imaging physics into this framework, examinations under different imaging devices and parameters can be virtually emulated. These #virtual #imaging #trials allow us to devise the most effective #imaging #protocols whilst minimizing any potential harm. 8/n
Providing a #regulatory perspective, we showcase the use of digital twins in #insilico #augmented #clinical #trials for medical device innovation, focusing on the #ENRICHMENT trial recently launched by @US_FDA and @Dassault3DS @3DSimulia. 9/n
