Today would be a good day to change some of the flawed HR processes in #GC staffing. For instance why is it that mgmt have so much discretion to deny us secondments to develop our skills? We know there’s so much favouritism that goes into play and it’s not fair.
When you have bosses who bully and don’t support their staff’s career development and then those same bosses use their power to trap you from leaving when they know full well that you can’t control whether the offer is a secondment or deployment, is very problematic.
If these senior bosses say they want to fix things but don’t know where to start, start with the staffing. How is that if I get deployed you can find resources to replace me but if I want to go on secondment you can’t find the resources?
And don’t tell me the excuses from the past. We know change is possible, we know organizations can adapt and be nimble when they want and need to, so let’s change some aspects of the hiring processes.
So often the decisions to not let someone go on secondment is rooted in personal biases, axes to grind, bullying, misogyny, misogynoir, and racism. And I’ve seen it with my own eyes so often that one day I might show receipts
