and now, i, a floridian, will give your cold huddled masses some tips on surviving the cold. https://twitter.com/chasetherain/status/1361365672215764994
outside? walk like a penguin. you know how they kind of hunch forward and shuffle? do that. you are shifting your center of gravity and if you fall you will fall forward not backward so you can stop your fall and protect your head.
speaking of heads! cover yours. put your hood on and wear a hat, cover your ears. double up on them socks. waterproof your outfit as much as possible if you're outside. wet is your enemy in these conditions. do not go outside with wet hair. that's not a myth. you will get sick.
cold at home? be thoughtful about where you put your space heater. if you have roommates all on the same breaker you are going to blow out your power. take turns with space heaters or share the room with the space heater. close the door to keep the heat in.
don't go downstairs. it's cold down there. stay upstairs where it's warm. layers are key. layer your clothes, layer your blankets. oh and take hot showers but make sure you dry your hair. NO WET HAIR WHEN IT IS THIS COLD. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES.
your urge to make a pile is a good one. pile up with your animals or your roommates. spend your energy staying hydrated and warm. why is hydrated so important? your nose is gonna bleed if you don't get it hydrated up in there.
don't forget chapstick. i prefer aquaphor for my cheeks, nose, hands, and lips. windburn hurts and my skin and lips crack when it's this cold your skin just start bursting for no reason. hydrate.
you're gonna think you can handle a little cold. you are wrong. you HAVE to wear gloves, you have to wear double layers of pants and shirts. you have to wear waterproof shoes with multiple pairs of socks (preferably wool). you gotta put that big old poofy parka on.
i learned all this the hard way because i am from florida and didn't own closed toe shoes that weren't for basketball until i was 21. stay warm and may g-d bless you all.
