With the game slipping away, the Celtics called timeout. This was what they ran out of the timeout, a play broken from the start.
Sure, they’re missing Marcus Smart, but the team simply is not yet on the same page. What’s wrong and what can be fixed: https://theathletic.com/2388296/2021/02/14/valentines-day-celtics-gordon-hayward/

The most glaring concern is alertness. The Celtics defense has always been defined by snap judgements and communication to avoid breakdowns when a coverage fails. Presumably someone shined a laser in Kemba’s eyes on this play.
Celtics started blitzing Beal in the 3rd, but their backside rotations were a mess. Watch Brown pass off the roll man to Ojeleye while he stays home on the worst shooter in the league & forgets about Rui in the weak corner. Even if he’s supposed to stay middle, at least sink low.
Wizards’ ball pressure was terrific & took Boston out of its initial action constantly. With Tatum & Brown down in the corners for an action where Kemba is going to slip it to Rob & then Jaylen is going to get the DHO to drive/kick to Tatum, Wiz just blow it up with no outlet.
