When rich countries let vaccines go bad for any reason, its not just painfully stupid and wasteful for their own citizens. Its preventing poorer countries from getting any doses of the vaccine at all.

When the US buys up a huge chunk of the world's vaccine stores, then lets it sit around while they decide which shifting category "deserves" to be vaccinated, they have kept a country like Colombia from getting any doses

The entire world needs to be vaccinated for COVID. Not just citizens of rich countries. Not just nice people. Not just people who "deserve" it. Everyone. Otherwise it will keep bouncing around mutating forever.

The clusterfuck of vaccine access in the US, where there are a million fiefdoms and power brokers and companies and websites whose requirements and availabilities change hourly, is the best possible argument for a centralized government healthcare system

People talk about "skipping the line" for a vaccine.

There is no line. There are a million lines, appearing and disappearing, as tangled as a rat king, and you have to make it a full-time job to locate them. I have friends in their eighties who still haven't been vaccinated

Every elderly person I knew who got the vaccine got it because they spent all of their time online, trying to find rapidly closing windows of places that had doses, and then were willing to drop everything and run to get their spot. This is ridiculous and cruel

How is it the US government can locate elderly people to get them their social security checks, but not to give them a vaccine that will let them out of the prison they've been stuck in for the last eleven months?
