A thread about a little boy with a BIG name.

1. My youngest student made me so proud last year. ...actually every time I teach him. He is the namesake of Beethoven and honestly even though he knew nothing about the cello 2 years ago, I was slightly intimidated by his name.
2. Everyone wanted him to play violin but he was adamant that as soon as our school could find him a half size cello he wants to be a cellist. So after a few months we found one(they’re rare) and Mr. Beethoven came over to the deeper(dark) side of the string family.
3. He was so small his feet didn’t touch the floor when he sits in correct position...hence the makeshift foot stand. Here he is having his first lesson and I’m demonstrating the balance point of the bow to him.
His Mom says he won’t sleep at night unless he listens to Mischa Maisky playing the first of the six Bach Prelude’s every night. His parents just have to endure his antics. He can’t play it yet but he can hum it.
He’s growing up in a very musical family but he takes zero instruction from anyone but me. Last year my mentor wanted to spend time with him but he insisted that my mentor calls me first to hear if I’m okay with it. Of course I was...mentorship doubled🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️
Last year on December 5th when I received very bad news early in the morning before our concert, it was young Mr. Beethoven who lifted my spirits with his first real flawless recital.
In honor of my mentor who meant a lot to me and to to young Mr. Beethoven last year, I asked him to accompany him on piano. It was one of the most beautiful things I’ve seen and heard in a long time. Still baby steps...but I was enthralled.
I can’t wait for him to grow up and I can’t wait to play bigger duets with him. I’m sure he is going to be a force to be reckoned with and I know at some point I’m going to have to give him over to some professor ...but I’ll do that with love ❤️
