why leeds united will get top 6 next season: a thread. #lufc
this season has been undeniably poor defensively, but some of the punditry and media coverage has been poor. yes we concede too many goals particularly from set pieces. but the other side of the story is our loss of two established international defenders who are aerially strong.
right along side them perhaps two of our finest performing players this season. the energy and drive both of them have make them perfect bielsa full-backs and once the defensive injury crisis is over and these two are back in their natural positions, that will be some back four.
that’s before we discuss the depth in defence, both youthful and experienced.
kalvin mark phillips.
rodrigo. in honesty, we’ve seen glimpses of rodrigo but perhaps not quite the £30m of talent we were promised. however, if we take into account his injury and illness struggles and adjusting to the pl, out of position, i look forward to a second season under bielsa for this man.
if we don’t see a klich renaissance this season, recruitment in his role is vital due to how important it is to the team. regardless, competition is needed and money will be spent in that position and a few others, such as cover at full-back, midfield and potentially on the wing.
this man. an extraordinary footballer and we’re just seeing the beginning. holding onto him is so vital as we progress towards europe, and a stronger team around him will only give him more freedom to create and work his magic. our key player.
form is temporary, class is permanent. ranging from in-form to out of form, young to fairly experienced. we have some great wingers at the club ready to frighten full backs and provide for the forwards, if not starting ready to make an impact from the bench.
what an unbelievable season it’s been for patrick bamford. if he carries on to perform into next season, i can only see more chances being created and more goals been scored. a golden boot contender in our team is an unreal asset when chasing the elite.
wether rival fans are ready to admit it or not, we have a top 6 level manager. his play style may be questioned but as explained, the defensive fragility will be limited as key defenders return. we must keep bielsa as we keep building. and i get the feeling he wants to stay.
i do hope with all my heart that fans return in the 2021/22 season. for all clubs, not just ours. but we will be back. the first time for many of us we will see our club live at the highest level of english football. think about the championship support. it’s going be UNREAL.
the top clubs: some of the giants have gone through rough spells this season and points are there to be taken. despite tottenham’s start and city’s current dominance, this season is proof that even the strongest sides slip for periods and are there to be exploited by quality.
