𝗧𝗬𝗥𝗢𝗡 – 𝗦𝗹𝗼𝘄𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗶
Tyron is the second studio album from UK punk rap artist Slowthai, on this album Thai gives us the classic punk rap songs we all love alongside a more personal insight. The album is split up into 2 halves, the first half being a more aggressive -

style, classic Slowthai. But the second half is something completely new for Slowthai; it brings us closer to him and allows the listener to see inside his head to see what he’s thinking and give us an insight to his daily struggles with his mental health.

𝟰𝟱 𝗦𝗠𝗢𝗞𝗘
This is the first song on the album, and it is a slapper. It has one of the best openings to a song I have ever heard. The 808s are nasty, full, and rich. The sample is amazing. Slowthai flows over this beat like he is part of it, he blends in so well. This song -

is in a classic Slowthai style.

𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗟𝗟𝗘𝗗 (𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁. 𝗦𝗸𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮)
The hook to this song is why Skepta is the best feature artist of the last decade, it is unbelievably catchy and a perfect feature. However, it feels like Skepta dominated on the track and Slowthai ends up feeling like the feature. -

Although I do not mind this, it would have been nice for Thai to have a second verse. Slowthai is rapping at his best here, it is one of his best verses and as usual he is full of witty bars.

𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗭𝗔 (𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁. 𝗔$𝗔𝗣 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘆)
The third song on TYRON, still Thai comes through with more bangers and the features keep coming through and being perfect. Ty brings a great hook and his overall energy on the song is huge even though the lyrics are actually slightly -

depressing, with bars like “Suicidal tendencies, what's up, man?” and “Feeling like these drugs made me better than I was, but I never felt love before the drugs” Slowthai gives us an insight to his thoughts early on but still brings the energy to get hyped to. Rocky’s feature -

is also out of this world, bringing his classic laid back, smooth as butter flow and some amazing bars.

𝗩𝗘𝗫
An absolute classic, it feels like something that could have been on Nothing Great About Britain. Slowthai brings his classic style with aggressive lyrics and an angry delivery. There isn’t much else to say but that it’s a banger.

𝗪𝗢𝗧
Another song in Slowthai’s classic style, with a big thumping 808 backed track, witty bars, and aggressive delivery. This song sums up what I love about Thai the most, his punk approach to rap is what makes him the most unique artist in the game right now. This is also -

the shortest song on the album coming in at 48 seconds. I wish this could’ve been expanded but it’s near perfect.

𝗗𝗘𝗔𝗗
The penultimate song on side A, this has one of the catchiest hooks I have ever heard. Kwes Darko really did a number on it. However, the song takes an awkward turn when Slowthai first enters onto the song, the first four or so bars feel rather slow and Thai’s flow -

feels off, however, he soon finds his groove and comes through delivering some of his best verses on this album.

𝗣𝗟𝗔𝗬 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗛 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘
This is the last song on Side A and it is a perfect transition into side B. Less aggressive, more personal but still has those thumping 808s, this song still has Thai’s classic ignorant vibe but he shows us how negativity affects him and I love that -

about how sensitive it is. It shows us his vulnerability, and his struggles with money and bullying.

𝗶 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱
This is my favourite song on the album. The beat reminds me of some old hip hop beat, it sounds like something Kanye would sample, it somewhat reminds me of Kanye’s “Devil in a New Dress”. Slowthai himself is simply phenomenal on this song, talking about his dreams-

and aspirations as a kid along with some struggles he’s faced. I really enjoyed the production on this track. This is one of his best songs.

𝗳𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀
This song is my second favourite off the album, Kenny made a legendary beat here and Slowthai killed it, making this song extremely personal talking about how he needs to focus on being better and how he passed everyone’s expectations. I don’t have a lot to say about -

this song, but I love it.

𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 (𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁. 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗶𝗸𝗲 & 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘇𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝘆)
This song is simply amazing, Dominic Fike delivers an absolutely beautiful hook, Slowthai has a flow that is unbelievably smooth, and Denzel adds some nice contrast to the song with his deep vocals. -

Slowthai has some of his best rhymes ever on this song like “The more the merry, celebrate, confetti, Kill an adversary over somethin' petty, Mind the debris, couldn't get a degree” and “Instead, I smoke zoots, tryna reboot, Tryna get loot but a snake in my boot, Never push a -

man who's got nothing to lose, I'm supposed to be grateful for nothing? Grateful, make do, turn nothin' to somethin'”. However, I do dislike one thing, I feel we were robbed of something that could’ve been a great Denzel feature and I overhyped myself for it to just be a couple -

of lines to accompany the hook.

𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵 (𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁. 𝗗𝗲𝗯 𝗡𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿)
In this song Slowthai talks about drug addiction and people doubting him, this song feels extremely personal and you can really see Thai’s story through this song. Thai is accompanied by Deb Never who brings a lovely intro and outro which -

really fits the mood of the song. This song is extremely melancholic, Thai’s voice feels strained as if he’s upset, you can really hear the emotion in his voice on this song.

𝗻𝗵𝘀
In this song, Thai raps with a poem style delivery using metaphors about how problems keep stacking up with lines like “What’s a sandwich to a dinner?” and “What’s a feather to a mattress?” and in the second verse, he uses metaphors about how the NHS isn’t perfect but the-

UK would be nothing without them. This song hits especially hard as my mum works for the NHS, she also really likes the song.

𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆 (𝗳𝗲𝗮𝘁. 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗕𝗹𝗮𝗸𝗲 & 𝗠𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗞𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗶𝗲)
This song feels the most personal on the album, it seems to be about a breakup. Slowthai’s voice seems rather distraught and upset and his lyrics hit quite close to home for me. Slowthai is -

accompanied by James Blake who provides the bridge and second verse, hearing his voice behind Thai’s rapping on the last chorus is rather beautiful.

𝗮𝗱𝗵𝗱
Now this song hits rather close to home as I have ADHD. This song is about how his family didn’t think he had ADHD when he was younger, they always thought he was just a “naughty boy” or “wanted attention” I had this exact experience when I was younger aswell, so I -

identify with these lyrics. The first two verses are delivered are delivered in a melancholic style over this depressing beat, but on the third verse Thai switches it up rather quickly to shouting which perfectly emulates how people with ADHD can go from 0 to 100 in seconds. -

This song is truly personal as Thai is opening up about extremely personal things.

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻
Overall, this album is great, it’s a work of art. Thai is at his lyrical best over these extremely heavy beats and his flow is out of this world on 99% of the album. However, I am slightly disappointed as it did not live up to my full expectations, there -

are some disappointing points and it’s just not as iconic as his first studio album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’. Thai brings a lot of new stuff to the table, this is a very, very successful attempt at experimenting with sound and story telling. That’s why I’m giving this -

album a 9/10.
