Gates says the most important thing he learned while writing the book is that all plans must start with 1 number — how much more the green alternative of something costs than the traditional product that pollutes (think, EVs vs. traditional cars). Closing that gap is critical.
He also shared with me the tech that needs investment today — and which ones are overhyped. I was interested to hear him say that backing solar and wind doesn’t do much to cut emissions anymore.
Gates also told me how to get more investors in the room to back climate tech, how long he thinks the boom will last, and which startups seem especially promising.
His book on tackling the climate crisis is out later this month.
