1/5 Ptolemy lived Ist century AD. The 1492 copy of his map marks regions and tribes living in Arabia. 2/5 The Saba tribes fought off 10k Alexandrians who tried to occupy Marib in 26 BC. The people of Arabia Felix have been defending themselves ever since. The Mutawakkilite Kingdom of Yemen was founded 1636 by Zaidi Shia Imams who ruled 61%Sunnis, 36.5% Shia & 1.5% Sephardic Jews.

4/5 The Kingdom fought off the Hejaz, the Ottomans, the Saudis but lost Aden to the British in 1937 and the whole South in 1948. The Kingdom ruled in the North till 1962, a total of 356 years. In 1990 North and South were re-united under Ali Abdullah Saleh.
5/5 The Saudis joined in when Hadi, who had replaced Saleh, fled from the advancing Houthis. They are Shia but want a united secular Yemen. Many in the South agree but one group backed by UAE & Israel wants separation.
