15 FEB 2021 - GEORGE WASHINGTON DAY
This day is officially set aside to honor George Washington, the first general and commander in chief of our Army, and as the first president, the first commander in chief of the nation's armed forces under the United States Constitution.
Washington commanded the Continental Army throughout the War for Independence. He not only developed strategy and issued orders for others to execute, but braved enemy fire as he rode into the fray to rally his troops and turned the tide of battle. #Armyhistory #USArmy
In 1783, after much of the fighting had ended Washington quelled a threatened mutiny through his leadership and personal example, affirming the principle that the military was subordinate to the civil authority. Soon after, he resigned his commission to the Continental Congress.
His legacy extends to we who serve in the Army as soldiers, as well as we who support them as members of its civilian workforce, take this time to reflect on the special bond we share with this great - arguably the greatest - American.
