You know what, let's watch a little Pistons/Pelicans
Saddiq Bey playing really well, shot 36% from 3 in January, shooting 55.6% from 3 in February. You see the confidence growing, gets the handoff and lets it fly.
Mason Plumlee, very underrated as a passing big. Bigger point is the defense here. Good job showing vs. Wright coming off. Look at the recovery from Bledsoe. Wright starts cutting, Bledsoe is going to his spot looking for him. Reaction from Adams says everything.
Plumlee pushes it off the rebound here and delivers a great pass to Svi cutting backdoor. Bonus points for immediately raising his hands up in the air. Maybe we should call him Mason Pointlee.
Zion as a ball handler in P&R is definitely a thing. Not sure why Wright jumped out on the other side but the angles you can set those screens are key. Lonzo does a good job of flipping his angle, screen set low so one dribble and he's off.
Zion in P&R again here, this time on the side and you see the pressure it puts on defenses. Don't want to switch because of the size. Wright trying to show but the angle makes it flat. Looks like a miscommunication, Zion able to turn the corner and finish.
Pistons do a better job vs. Zion in P&R but I loved the design from the Pelicans. Watch the weakside, it's a hammer for Ingram. Bey pulls over early and helps stop the drive but if Zion sees it Ingram is wide open.
Love the energy Isaiah Stewart plays with and this is a good defensive possession from him. In position in P&R, slides to get in front on the reject, recovers back to his man rolling to get the block. Multiple efforts.
Also your reminder that Isaiah Stewart is a big man. Look at this rim run and seal in transition.
Pistons did a good job of getting to drive/kick and for the Pelicans the nuance with scheme as to be there. Hart is in good position as Wright comes off the screen to show help. Holds a second too long since the guard/big recovered. Now gives up middle drive, kick to Bey for 3
I'll give credit to Zion, defensively he looked much more active. Still a work in progress but that's a step. In to help on the roll, recovers back to Grant. It's tough when Grant gets to that hesitation and attack right. Look at Pelicans weakside, almost move *out* of the way.
Look at the drive and kick and ball movement from the *checks notes* Pistons
Weakside defense from the Pelicans just was not there. Handoff to Jackson who turns the corner and no help, no stunt, just a layup.
