Over 6 lakh Indians gave up citizenship between 2015-19, averaging about 1.25 lakh per year.

The bulk seems to have taken US citizenship, averaging about 30k per year.

We may be value-neutral over their choice of citizenship but some points are worth pondering over 1/n
Presumably, this group overwhelmingly consists of high-income and skilled workforce. Their human and economic capital matters for any country's growth.

From that perspective, India may have been disadvantaged from such choices.

For a nation of 1.3bn people, one may think 2/
that such a small percentage of exodus may not cause a dent.

But we are also a nation of average 150 lakh income tax payers and woefully short on human, economic and technological capital.

India is also many many years away from economically taking off and creating decent 3/
Living standards for millions and millions of people.

Thus, a high-skilled, high-income class is often essential to reshape our economy, society and polity.

Or at least, it is important that such reward structures be put in place to retain such human captial.
