'I'm still terrified’: Victim of Ottawa police Const. Eric Post’s abuse feels defeated by plea deal and process to prosecute a police officer https://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/im-still-terrified-victim-of-ottawa-police-officers-abuse-feels-defeated-by-plea-agreement #ottnews
Post pleaded guilty to 2 charges relating to the woman, whom he started dating in 2018. In all he pleaded to just 5 of 32 charges. The woman gave 5 statements to police over months and wrote a letter to the former chief asking the criminal case be re-opened after it was closed.
After she came forward to police detailing what happened with Post, the woman says an inspector told her that police officers are human, too, and make mistakes. Seven women told investigators about those mistakes. Four would have their claims validated by the court.
The woman also says basic policy requirements for handling a domestic violence file weren’t followed by police. She doesn’t know why but she fears it’s because the service brushed aside her allegations against one of their own.
Ottawa police said “a full review of this entire matter is already underway. That review will also look at other similar examples of misconduct and criminal behavior.” Post is scheduled to be sentenced for his crimes in April 1.
