I am sad about the decision of St Andrews to run a gender studies programme led entirely by men but this is what happens when you consistently deny that woman is anything other than a personality type that can apply to any sort of person. It’s also what happens when you 1/
repeatedly argue that males who claim to have a female gender identity are far more oppressed than ‘ordinary’ women. Alison Kerr participated in this herself. She’d have happily seen a fellow female academic fired for her views. Now she’s the one losing her job and asking 2/
the community to save her. Maybe she thought that her own allyship would be reciprocated. If she prioritised the feelings of males that they would do the same for her when she needed it. That’s obviously not how it works, as she has found out to her own cost now. 3/
Although Alison would wish someone like me to lose my job, I don’t feel the same about her. I personally think that it’s ludicrous to run a course abt gender led by men but Alison herself has ensured that it no longer seems ludicrous and has therefore shot herself in the foot.4/4
