It certainly can be fun and I’m very glad I chose it as a career, but if you’re expecting it to be hoodies and such you’re in for a rude awakening. It’s basically this for decades.
A way to pitch reality of corporate InfoSec is imagine being a firefighter in an building, except they can’t afford full fire safety, nor to put out all the existing fires, so you squirt water with a hosepipe on what you can to stop 13 year old arsonists consuming the building.
Btw, there are many people in the trenches who ‘get it’, fight the good fight over long period and try to keep their orgs protected despite the odds and maturity of the space.
