A thread of my top 10 favourite songs of all time. Hope you enjoy, this took me forever.
10. I Want You (She's So Heavy) - The Beatles
Although repetitive in lyrical content, this classic primarily written by Lennon is a beautiful example of prog rock. The same melody looped throughout this 8 minute track never seems to get old as the instrumentals develop with

more drums and percussion throughout each repetition, as well as added subtle complexities to the guitar. The layering of guitars, a vast array of drums, percussion and bass ties the song together for a seemingly effortless track that certainly does not feel as long as it is.
9. Figaro - MF DOOM
In regards to technical rapping, I believe there are few with the caliber of MF DOOM and this song is evidence. An assault of multi-syllable rhymes as DOOM flows effortlessly over the looped drum and string beat from Madlib. A masterclass in rapping, RIP DOOM

8. Shattered Dreams - Earl Sweatshirt
The rough mixing over the looped vocal sample adds an unfinished atmosphere which surprisingly compliments Earl's sleepy delivery. The opener to my favourite Earl project, as he explains that these are 'imprecise words' detailing

the difficulty of explaining his emotions. Such an introspective song that really demonstrates Earl's struggles and the struggle of mental health in general.
7. VENGEANCE - Denzel Curry
One of the hardest rap songs I've ever heard, absolutely lost it when I saw this live. Zel, Peggy and Zilla all provide high energy and well constructed verses over a deep bassy beat. Zilla probably has my favourite verse on this with his

almost barking delivery but they all have insanely good verses. The beat switch in the outro to the soft and jazzy instrumental is ridiculous. Crazy good song.
6. Self Control - Frank Ocean
This song hits a little too hard lmao. Frank's voice as per usual sounds fucking perfect over the electric guitar lick, as he changes pitch constantly exhibiting his vocal talents. A slow somewhat comforting song as Frank's relationship falls apart

over some mixed feelings and immature actions. The harmonies exhibited in the second half transcend me to another dimension. Also some beautiful writing and imagery.
5. Empire Ants - Gorillaz
This song opens off beautifully with some really inviting strings and a soft drum beat. Albarn's vocals are really glossy over the intro, however my love for this song really stems from the transition into the synthy electro dance pop beat.

Little Dragon provides some really solid vocals over a looped bass synth beat, as the remnant of the opening beat underlies over the more funky second half.
4. A Fond Farewell - Elliott Smith
Elliott Smith is one of my all time favourite artists and he's gotten me through a lot. This song from his post-humous release details Elliott's struggles with drugs and his comfortability with death over a gentle acoustic instrumental.

Elliott seems ashamed of the person that he's become with all his drug use, that the chorus seems to serve as a pretty bare goodbye to a friend. The soft guitar creates an atmosphere of loss and distance. Missing Elliott everyday.
3. Ain't It Funny - Danny Brown
Danny Brown's self acknowledgement of his issues and yet resistance to change really details the damages of drug abuse. The wacky and zany delivery over the jarring beat compliment for an intimidating listen as Danny encourages uncomfortability

not only in his actions but how seemingly okay he is with just laughing them off, even after acknowledging the dangers of his habits. This songs music video is also phenomenal.
2. u - Kendrick Lamar
Heart wrenching but beautiful. The opening of 'loving me is complicated' as Kendrick yells and chastises himself. This followed by the stereophonic transition period to the drunken sad ramble as we listen to Kendrick break himself down is something that's
Heart wrenching but beautiful. The opening of 'loving me is complicated' as Kendrick yells and chastises himself. This followed by the stereophonic transition period to the drunken sad ramble as we listen to Kendrick break himself down is something that's
quite confronting and difficult to listen to. A modern day poet, Kendrick beautifully executes his internal battles on u.
1. Nude - Radiohead
My favourite song OAT. The soft and subtle string plucking, Yorke's flawless beautiful harmonies, the small intricacies of the changes in the bass and the layering of the acoustics flowing over each other. Genuinely a perfectly constructed masterpiece.
