Mumbai #COVID19 update. The epidemic refuses to die away. The city is still generating about 500 cases daily. That's almost 5% of the national total, and despite many restrictions still in place. The city currently has around 1000 sealed buildings and 100 containment zones. 1/4
Current estimates for Mumbai from modelling:
- around 4000 new infections daily (about 10% to 15% being detected).
- about one third of new infections from the slums.
- over 75% of slum dwellers and 50% of nonslum dwellers have had the disease

With a stream of infections despite high levels of prior infection, Mumbai raises troubling questions about the future of COVID-19 in highly connected cities. We have little idea about new variants, or reinfections. It seems there is little sequencing occurring. 3/4
Apparently about 1% of the city (health and frontline workers) have so far received one dose of a vaccine. Hard to find reports on how many received Covaxin and how many Covishield. Earlier reports suggested mainly Covishield. 4/4 https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/mumbai/second-dose-from-tomorrow-pvt-hosps-get-ok-to-jab-staff/articleshow/80903472.cms
