Running competitions that favour children who already read for pleasure or insist on mandatory amounts of reading per week are not going to encourage other children to read for pleasure.

I find flexibility and freedom to be two of the most crucial cornerstones to helping children engage in reading for pleasure.
I do most of my reading on a sofa or in bed, so is it fair I expect children to only read sat at their desks?

I do most of my reading with no time frame in mind. I read until I’ve reached a natural pause or I want to do something else so is it fair I cap their reading time at 10 minutes to calm them down after lunch?
Reading for Pleasure continues to be considered by many the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success, so we have to ensure our classrooms promote that.
Loosen the shackles on reading and you quite literally open up worlds for the children in your class to explore.
