one of my favorite things we've done at honeycomb, which i encourage others to steal shamelessly, is to make sure there is at least one 3-day weekend per month. if one doesn't exist, we pick a friday and *make* one.
it's especially important right now, because covid means people aren't taking enough vacation time. 
technically anyone can make a 3day weekend for themselves anytime, but it's much, much harder to give yourself permission to do so when you know your team is working.

there are no "naturally occurring holidays", the whole damn system was made up by people like us, which means 
we have the power to make a better one. and there are sooo many easy little ways to do so. like this.

not everyone is a founder or a C-level, but a whole stinkin lot of you are engineering managers at places with unlimited vacation. you could organize a three day weekend for your team! even better, band together with some adjacent teams!
in the interest of facilitating this, we found that fridays towards the beginning of the month were the least disruptive for other teams in the company. especially sales, for whom end of the month is particularly meaningful.
(cue all the people who are going to start complaining about how there should only ever be a 4 day work week, etc. it's not that i'm unsympathetic, kittens, or even that you're wrong, but i am not going to respond to y'all this round because
