“[Extended paid parental leave] should not be gender-specific," Ms Steggall said. "There are many countries doing a lot to encourage a more equitable take-up of parental leave, whereas Australia is still very far behind."
Nordic nations have led the way on this important reform. In Iceland, each parent is granted 13 weeks of leave, while a further 13 weeks can be shared.
