Also, it’s a classic libertarian move to cite a statistic like this without talking about federal subsidies or lack thereof.

The reason the Acela is so expensive is that the ticket covers the cost of the congressionally mandated but UNFUNDED long-haul Amtrak routes.

Meanwhile the Essential Air Service subsidies cover the cost of unprofitable, low-volume air routes for the carriers by the federal government.

It’s almost as if the idea that the market decides just plain isn’t true!
