Thread, My Elmer Bernstein story: When I was getting married, I wanted to walk down the aisle to the theme from To Kill a Mockingbird. My Dad, whom I lost when I was 16, always reminded me of Atticus Finch (but with a great sense of humor) and having that music would be the 1/
2/ closest thing to walking down the aisle with him. I couldn't find the sheet music so I contacted Elmer Bernstein's office. His assistant emailed back that it had never been published but he had written it out for a concert appearance. He sent me a copy of it along with the 2/
3/ CD of the score, autographed with best wishes to my fiance and me. I almost fainted at the mailbox, overwhelmed by his kindness. I wrote back to thank him and told him we'd be noting his generosity in our wedding program and toasting him at the reception. Weeks later he 3/
4/ was gone. Apparently he was already very sick when he made his kind and generous gesture to me. He was already my favorite composer and has since been even closer to my heart. #TCMParty
