Here's why I will vote for our ANC 3C resolution supporting Amendment 2123 relating to the Future Land Use Map (FLUM) of the Comprehensive Plan by @OPinDC https://anc3c.org/documents/draft-resolution-supporting-ops-recommended-amendment-2123-to-the-future-land-use-map-portion-of-the-comprehensive-plan/
Our neighborhood has been slowly withering away, even before COVID our restaurants and businesses were shutting down, and COVID revealed the deeper problems of our neighborhood by the permanent closing of the Uptown theater https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/uptown-theater-an-iconic-dc-movie-palace-shuts-down/2020/03/13/dcfff8a0-655b-11ea-845d-e35b0234b136_story.html
It's that day that I announced my candidacy for @ANC3C, aiming to make sure our neighborhood had enough people to call it a community. My voice wasn't the only one, all the people that voted for me wanted a thriving and inclusive cleveland park.
This amendment brings more people to our community. And it brings more affordable housing than we currently have. But will it solve all our affordable housing problems? Absolutely not! @Kamolika_Das has a wonderful article about what DC needs to do https://eastoftheriverdcnews.com/2019/04/13/dcs-affordable-housing-toolbox/
So yes, we need more public housing in
Cleveland Park, we need local and federal programs that help people afford to live here, and we need creative solutions such as inclusionary conversions by the @dcpolicycenter https://www.dcpolicycenter.org/publications/appraising-districts-rentals-chapter-v/

What is clear though, is that Cleveland Park needs to do more. Here's a map of affordable housing units around the city. Our being the smallest dot means that black and brown neighborhoods have been heavily gentrified in response to the growing population
And if you want more scientific evidence of why more housing in our neighborhood can help reduce housing prices, you can read this wonderful blog post by @Noahpinion which has links to primary scientific articles too. https://noahpinion.substack.com/p/the-left-nimby-canon
And finally, this is one step towards solving our climate crisis as well. So if you ever thought a local issue can have a global impact, this is it. https://www.seattletimes.com/opinion/yes-to-upzoning-density-can-make-an-impact-on-climate-change/
