Breaking news: #Ebola cases confirmed in neighbouring #Guinea. Samples had been sent to #Conakry for confirmation and today the Ministry of Health in Guinea confirmed the Ebola cases. There have been 7 cases, of which 3 died, all linked to burial of a nurse who died late January.
#Guinea, #SierraLeone, #Liberia and #IvoryCoast will need to plan carefully, act quickly & work together effectively. These countries are better prepared now than they were in 2014 but there's still a lot of work to be done.

For #SierraLeone, this means taking immediate action to prevent entry of the #Ebola virus into the country. The national Health Emergency Response System was activated to level II, focusing on enhanced surveillance, active case finding & robust community engagement.
At the same time, these countries have to continue the fight against #COVID19. Protecting frontline workers has to be a priority.
At the end of the previous West African #Ebola outbreak a #vaccine was developed. Although some vaccine is stockpiled, production needs to increase to meet demand, which is challenging when #COVID19 vaccines are being ramped up globally. Both are needed. https://www.who.int/news/item/12-01-2021-unicef-who-ifrc-and-msf-announce-the-establishment-of-a-global-ebola-vaccine-stockpile
