Please do not conflate the characteristics of a Chinese 君子 jun zi with Western ideals of femininity because they are not the same. NHS is not more feminine, not coded more feminine, than any of the other characters. (contd.)
The four arts - 四藝 - 琴 (Guqin), 棋 (Qi/Chinese Chess), 書 (Calligraphy), 畫 (Painting) in ancient China was actually seen as an aristocratic scholarly pursuit for a 君子 jun zi. It would be normal for NHS to do this.

TLDR; Nie Huaisang may like fans and painting, but he is not femme by Chinese culture standards of that time.
I don't understand how fan = feminine - are Westerners also claiming that Shen Qing Qiu is feminine??
Yes I know Victorian England had a fan language and it's feminine where other people come from but it's not here
