CLASSIC FILM VALENTINES

Love is a lot of things in our classic film world. As we face this Valentine’s Day weekend with love (and COVID ) in the air, lets be safe and loving out there. Let me list a coupla things love is…in classic films. The good, the bad and the ugly.
LOVE IS A BATTLEFIELD ~

Pat Benatar wasn’t lying. It can sometimes be a battle royale out there between the sexes. Wouldn’t it just be easier to give in?
"GILDA" ~ “I taught her everything she knows,” is Glenn Ford’s taunt to George Macready about Rita Hayworth. Somehow, I doubt that. Have you SEEN Rita in this film? Well…they do go hammer and tong in this classic.

The S & M is strong with this one.

THE QUIET MAN ~ Maureen O’Hara gives John Wayne a run for his money in this film. She’s the girl for him. In order to be the man for her, he’s just got to one teensy weeny thing. Let the battle begin…over hill and dale.K #ClassicFilmValentines
UNREQUITED LOVE ~

Not having what you want.

"WRITTEN ON THE WIND" ~ Mary Lee’s not bad. She’s just drawn that way. It’s not that she goes w/any guy. She just aches 4 the man she cannot have. With unrequited love, you have to get out of your own way. #ClassicFilmValentines
I'll betcha Dorothy Make had a lot of fun playing this heart-broken wild cat. Won an Oscar for it too. Good job, Dot!

Does this gun make me look fat?

"DECOY" ~ She wants money. Badly. Even if she has to revive a dead man to find out where he buried it. Ann Gillie is killer. No really. To every man who falls for her and crosses her path.

"OUT OF THE PAST" ~ Robert Mitchum was supposed to bring Jane Greer back to Kirk Douglas. But he goes and falls in love with her instead. That was a mistake...

"VERTIGO" ~ It’s complicated. It’s not real. It’s not a two-way street. Affable Jimmy Stewart builds a replica of the woman he loved & lost: Kim Novak. Thing is Novak IS the woman he loved & lost. Obsession control - either maintaining it and giving it up. #ClassicFilmValentines
