I see Toji discourse but imo I think this chapter’s further explanation of his character is more nuanced than “Is toji a good father now?” These are my thoughts on Toji’s actions after this new info about his plan of selling Megumi.
We know that Megumi’s mom changed Toji. He had extreme love for her & Megumi alike. Toji was a broken man with years of being in the Zenin clan and treated like a failure because of his lack of cursed energy and was a traumatized man. But with her, he had peace. Until she died.
After Megumi’s mom died, you can already infer what (the already traumatized from his upbringing) Toji felt. With her final words, its inferred she said “Take care of Megumi, okay?” Toji was depressed & hopeless and did the best thing he could think of
Toji knew that people with inherited clan cursed techniques were treated especially great. So this is where Toji’s plan of k*lling Gojo comes in. Toji had lost his true lover & wanted the best for Megumi. He “sold” his son with conditions of Megumi being the leader of the clan.
The Zenin & Gojo family have constantly been at odds since the very beginning. Naobito even comments he’ll enjoy “The decline of the Gojo family.” Toji knew the clan head’s desires & also wanted to prove to the Zenin clan he was worthy and to spite them
Toji was an insecure person. If you are raised and told “you are not worthy to be here” all your life since being a child, that trauma will stick with you. In his fight with Gojo, he saw the “Pinnacle of Jujutsu Sorcery.” Having no cursed energy, Toji wanted to kill this symbol
Toji had no cursed energy & wished to k*ll the the greatest cursed energy user. He even admitted to himself this was for Self-Affirmation. This means at this point in time, Toji was so traumatized by his upbringing he didn’t even believe he was worthy of love or respect.
If anything, Toji’s character arc is a commentary on how the big three clan’s trauma is generational & affects the people who have to grow up in it. Toji was fighting self doubt + had no self-worth & didnt even view himself as worthy of blessings (Megumi).
After failing to kill Gojo, Toji is prideful and says he has no final words. Gojo is the embodiment/symbol of everything that caused him trauma throughout his life (the top of the jujutsu world with the most blessed cursed energy.)
But then in his FINAL moments, Toji thinks of Megumi. This made Toji swallow all his pride & tells the person (Gojo) that represents what he detests the most (Jujutsu world) about his son’s situation since he knew megumi wouldnt become clan head if gojo wasnt dead.
Toji loved Megumi (his blessing) so much to the point he ignored his lifetime of trauma & essentially asked his self proclaimed nemesis to do something. A person’s final words are honored & he saw the type of person Gojo was & decided to let his will be known
Toji’s arc shouldn’t be simplified to “was he a good father?” It should be viewed in the lens of a man with immense mental trauma who despite all this trauma still loved & wanted the best for his son, even if he never experienced true love from his family growing up
