0) My experience with #Trezor Model T hardware wallet. This is not a review per se. Just passing on what I learned.
1) Moving $LINK from exchange to wallet; For this txn, care is required b/c mistakes would be financially devastating. Keep in mind I am a former software designer and have developed GUI and user doc, so I have certain expectations about customer interfaces.
2) #Trezor setup. Mostly not too difficult. Using Shamir Secret Sharing for the seed phrase recovery was not straightforward. I wanted a 2/5 setup but I was unfamiliar with the terminology used. I accidentally set up a 2/2 recovery.
3) I was too afraid to try to change it for fear of wrecking something. For most of the process, there is no "back" button. Novices that are not tech/crypto savvy will be intimidated. It was at this point I found #Trezor user doc lacking.
4) I spent 1-2 hours learning how to safely store seed phrases. There are some really stupid ideas out there. My advice: be creative and keep it in multiple locations. I invented my own algo & process so that trusted friends/family could access but nobody else can.
5) Once in the wallet, much confusion. Only a few coin options ( $BTC, $ETH, etc) listed. Website shows support for hundreds. I could not find out if this wallet supported $LINK. Spent an hour researching this alone. #Trezor website / user doc unhelpful.
6) Eventually found what I was looking for on #Reddit of all places. This model requires a desktop app called #Trezor Suite. Downloaded and installed. Spent another hour to research/confirm that $LINK uses an $ETH address. I suspected it did but wrong assumptions would be costly.
9) Now the other way. Attempted to move 5 $LINK from #trezor back to exchange. It says not enough $ETH to pay the fees. At this point I learned it costs $ETH to move $LINK off of #trezor.
11) Second attempt to move 5 $LINK from #trezor to exchange. Proposed fee is $68! My $100 transaction would cost $68 in fees?! I reduce the fee to a reasonable $2.00 and submit.
12) The transaction in #11 is never processed. It just disappears eventually. No $LINK moves. Has anyone else experienced this?
